As the new LoCo team contact person I’d like to continue the great work Marcus and the rest of the community has done to spread Ubuntu and Open Source in Switzerland. There are already many Ubuntu-related activities in our country, but till now they weren’t visible to the rest of the community. That’s why we have started this website.
The goals of this website are:
- Show Swiss people that there’s a active community in our country and try to get them involved
- Show the activities of regional groups to the other groups (let the French speaking community know what the German speaking community is doing and vice versa)
- Share marketing and community event ideas with other LoCos
- Promote our events
- Show our activities to the rest of the (Ubuntu-) world
Although English is not a national language, this news page and our LoCo communication language is English. That’s because Switzerland has four official national languages and most people only speak one of them. Since English is the most widespread foreign language it’s the easiest way to communicate to as many people as possible.
As a small country with large neighbors we’re interested to work with the other LoCos from Germany, France, Italy and Austria as often as possible. Since there are already great wikis and boards available in all languages neither do we have nor do we plan to build our own Ubuntu information source, but focus on online projects which aim to bring more activity to our local community.
At the beginning there will follow posts about the current activities of the local communities and how they meet on- and offline.
